Other Fantasies for Extinction
An in-progress collaboration with artist and filmmaker Rachel Garber Cole to create an artist book from her research poem Other Fantasies for Extinction. Part science report, part love letter, part personal essay, the book will oscillate between cool scientific objectivity on the disastrous effects of carbon cycle disruptions to life on earth and a highly imaginative and personal reckoning with mass extinctions past and future.
In making paintings and prints for the book, my challenge is not only to make visible ideas that confound human senses, but also acknowledge the futility of attempting to describe the unknowable or to grasp the dizzying depth of time.
